Back to Tom Sawyer

Once just wasn't enough. So last weekend, we went back to Tom Sawyer Restaurant
in the mountains of Kainan again.
This time with a different crew.
On Saturday, June 22, Atsuko and I met up with Hiroko san, Koto san, Kento kun, Kanaru kun, and Rika chan.
The weather was overcast, but no rain this visit! The view was stunning. Tom Sawyer overlooks rural mountainsides on which
dan-dan batake (terraced rice paddies) are carved.

Koto san enjoys desert after a delicious pasta lunch
Atsuko holds up the pretty Ajisai (Hydrangia Flowers) cut from the gardens just outside. They are used as garnishes for the deserts!

Kanaru, Koto san's 7-year-old son digs into his ice cream desert.
Kento gives the peace sign and smiles from the lap of his happy mom Hiroko
Kento shows off his piano skills
Rika chan - Koto san's beautiful 7-month-old little girl
Kanaru and Kento talk about the good old days as they peer through the open window facing the neighboring mountains
Rika chan and I bond! She's just too adorable!!! Can I have her Koto san???!!!
We practice stretching exercises together
Rika chan shows me a survival technique that involves eating your own hand. Kento takes control of mom's camera. He can't resist the cuteness of little Rika chan either!
Just outside the restaurant, the humid, cloudy conditions are ideal for many little critters. Little orange forest crabs scurry about crisscrossing roads. Although they lead a land-locked life, moisture is necessary to their survival - much like an amphibian. In order to respire, or breath, the crabs' lungs must stay wet inside their hard exoskeleton exterior

Insects are restless on days like these too. What you see above isn't what you think it is! The black and yellow winged insect appears to be some kind of a bee or wasp, but in fact is just a harmless moth. This disguise may help the little moth avoid many encounters with would be predators, such as birds. It's natures way of saying "Ha-ha... gotcha sucker! I'll live to see another day"
Always stick to the buddy system

Somebody's hungry!
The boys are gettin' serious now
Somebody's sleepy!

Thanks Adam. It was actually Atsuko's shirt. She got it there while visiting a friend during the time when she was living on the west coast. I like it too!
